Everybody shared from their field experience. It was good to hear the variations.

Notes:
What are society's perceptions of individuals with Disabilities? Disability dominates our perception of the individual's social value. Stereotypes of individuals with disabilities deny them a place in society, limiting their social and economic equality.

Random Thoughts:
Research where people come from - for an example - people come from an oral culture and some people come from a written culture. (Re: Disproportionate Placements)
*Disaproportionate placement of students of color in classes for students w/disabilities is among the biggest problem areas in special education.
*Values and cultural background dictates how we move along in life. Biases and poverty results in other contributing variables.
*There should be limits when including individuals with disabilities in Full Inclusion. It is important to question full inclusion as those with disabilities can be a disrupting influence to other students. Note that serving students with disabilities in general education environments would be possible for most students if there are adequate resources for schools and teachers.
*Federal and state funding was at appropriate levels (federal funding is currently at 18% of what was promised in the legislation).

Blog Homework: Watch the movie "Radio", then write your personal reflection on what it means for educators who take an extra mile to help exceptional students.

My take and personal reflection on watching the movie "Radio". I didn't think at first the movie would be interesting enough to comment on, however, after watching Cuba Gooding Jr.'s performance and portrayal of Robert "Radio" Kennedy, I was completely moved by human inspiration of acts of kindness and good deeds done to him by another human being.

Every now and then, we come across a teacher who inspires students. It is important for educators in the profession to go above and beyong duty, to be humble and considerate of those who don't have all their mental faculties. To begrudge a handicapped individual of any calibur of disability is rude. It takes an exceptional and extraordinary person like Radio's coach to show us all that what we truly take for granted or don't understand doesn't allow us as human beings to grow and learn from each other.

Lastly, learning education is one thing, teaching it is an art. For those who have "IT", I applaud you and for those who don't, then my answer is - learn more.
